A Study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association slammed suppliers of ‘natural’ CBD products after most products were found to be contaminated with illegal drug THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis. THC was found at an alarming level despite not being listed on the label, with authors stating that it was at a level that ‘may be sufficient to produce intoxication or impairment, especially among children.’

84 products were tested from 31 online CBD stores. About 70% of items did not contain the correct CBD dosage as listed on the label. More than half the products illegally contained THC – despite it not being listed on the label.

Doctors and consumers alike are cautioned that agriculturally produced CBD is not the same as pharmaceutical grade CBD, as hemp plants still contain low levels of psychoactive drugs along with pesticides, mould and heavy metals such as lead, which are concentrated during the extraction process.

Manufacturers of generic CBD medicines, supplements and other products wanting to avoid THC contamination should consider BioPharm’s pharmaceutically produced CBD from non-agricultural origin, being chemically produced to be pharmaceutically pure, free of all agricultural contamination and without any level of THC.
