BioPharm > FAQ

BioPharm chemically pure CBD is manufactured in a pharmaceutical laboratory, using pure chemicals. We do not use any hemp or cannabis plants in the process.

For this reason we can achieve a higher level of purity than plant derived CBD, and are able to state that no parts of the cannabis plant are contained in the product.

‘Pharmaceutical Grade’ is used differently in different industries.

When medicines are manufactured in a pharmaceutical laboratory the target is that they would be 99.9% pure, and that any impurities would be identified and listed.

This is very difficult to do with natural products, so plant extracts are often labelled as ‘pharmaceutical grade’ when they are only 99.0% pure, we have even seen it used on hemp products where they are only 96% pure. Sometimes the term is applied by marketers who don’t understand the ramifications at all.

The difference in impurity levels between 99.0% pure and 99.9% pure is ten times the amount, so it is very significant.

Standardisation implies that something meets a standard. It fulfils a set of requirements and is the same all the time.

BioPharm standardised pharmaceutical CBD is pharmaceutical grade and it is always the same, it isn’t grown on farms subject to environmental pollution and climatic changes, it is made in carefully controlled laboratory conditions where it is always the same.

This means the customer can depend on our product for critical applications where they need to know that it is not contaminated with anything illegal, or toxic, or that will interfere with the next manufacture process that it will be used in.

Chemically pure CBD is ideal for two main groups:

1. Legally Risk Averse

If you intend to market in a territory where you absolutely can not have any level of THC in your product, such as UK or anywhere marijuana is illegal, you should consider BioPharm chemically pure CBD.

2. Precise Formulation

If you are required to use pure CBD in a complex formula where contaminants may react with other ingredients or interfere with formulation, or may change the stability of the formula or cause an unwanted interaction, we suggest consider BioPharm chemically pure CBD.

For critical formulations in applications including:

  • Pharmaceutical Compounding

  • Beverage Manufacturer

  • Brewing of Beer

  • Cosmetic / Skincare

99% sounds like a very pure product but it is not.

1% impurities can be very high, particularly for illegal drugs like THC in some jurisdictions, or for sick patients being exposed to toxins such as lead, mercury, arsenic or glyphosate.

99% pure or 99.0% pure has ten times the level of impurities as 99.9% pure.

Most CBD is made from plants. Plants from outdoors pick up toxins such as pesticides and heavy metals from the earth and the air. Also, even if grown indoors the plants naturally produce other cannabinoids such as THC, CBG, THCA and many others which are illegal in many places.

Many products claim to be free of THC, free of pesticides and heavy metals, yet government labs still find this contamination from the original plants in most samples.

The UK government has explained that the equipment in some analytical laboratories used by industry is not sensitive enough to pick up levels of illegal cannabinoids and other impurities, so suppliers often get a surprise, too.

Even GMP certified, GACP certified, EU-GMP certified CBD products can still contain THC, or heavy metals from the plants.

BioPharm CBD will not contain THC, or any parts of the cannabis plant because it is not produced from any hemp or cannabis plants.

In come countries it is illegal to have any parts of the cannabis plant in your product.

For instance the UK government home office have stated that only pure CBD is legal, no parts of the cannabis plant.

For this reason it is safer to use chemically produced CBD, because it contains nothing from cannabis plants and is chemically pure.

There are various grades of agricultural CBD product available on the market extracted from hemp.

They vary in purity from below 50% pure CBD up to some in the 90% or even 99% range.

These products are extracted from plants, which also contain impurities from the environment, and other cannabinoids including THC, THCA, CBG, CBN etc.

Many of these are claimed to be beneficial to the consumer, but they detract from the purity, and in some cases cause the product to be illegal.

The most pure form of CBD product is CBD isolate, which may be 99.0% pure or maybe more pure with some quoted as 99.5% or 99.8% pure.

BioPharm CBD is chemically pure, able to be manufactured to 99.9% purity and any impurities identified from the process.

It is very difficult to refine herbal products to this level.

UK government have pointed out that many of the analytical equipment used my the industry are not sensitive enough to measure impurities at this level, so many suppliers believe their products are cleaner than they really are.

For this reason, if wanting a precise product it is best to use chemically pure CBD.
